No MMO is complete without mini games. SWTOR is no different. Many people were excited about BioWare’s April’s fool joke of playing virtual janitor. During the Guild Convention, they did confirm that mini games would be coming, but they have yet to announce any. While we wait, in no particular order, here are 4 mini game ideas: Swoop Racing, Gambling, Holochess and Companion PVP. More on mini games after the break.

1. Swoop Racing
Swoop racing would be the best matched racing game for the time line of the Old Republic.  Swoop racing is a time trials race where the racer with the best time wins. Racing circuits could be placed on Taris, Nar Shaddaa, and Tatooine. Swoop races can be projected on TV monitors in cantinas and the Nar Shaddaa casino. BioWare can implement leaderboards and challenge modes to further intense competition.

The track may be filled with obstacle and “acceleration pads” to provide a more tense race. They can use an upgrade system similar to the player ship where you can add purchase parts by using badges, or acquire them through missions; thus, posting the best time would require both upgrades and skills.

2. Gambling
Gambling would be split into two categories, Cantina and Casino gambling.  In the Cantina, gambling can consist of Sabacc, and Pazaak. Players can gather and play Sabacc and Pazaak while watching Pod racing on TV monitors. Nar Shaddaa already has nonworking casinos, BioWare can expand it into a working one were players can bet in-game credits on different Star War themed mini games.

3. Holochess
Holochess is a chess game that utilizes holographic representations of the playing pieces.   The holographic pieces have three ratings, Attack, Defense, and Movement. BioWare can develop a card game to go along with the pieces used for Holochess. Allowing defeated NPCs to drop a card that is a holographic representation of them. Once the card is collected the NPC can be used in Holochess. Players can battle other players in Holochess or play against their companions on their ship.  Cards can be leveled and then be traded amongst players.

4. Companion PvP
An action RTS where players can PVP against one another a la League of Legends. Players will be formed into 2 teams of companions, 3v3 or 5v5. Players can unlock companions to play as through the Legacy system. The rules would be simple; teams spawn on the opposing sides of a map and try to destroy the opposing team’s ship. The match is won when either team’s ship is destroyed. Companions can build torrents or spawn battle droids at predetermined nods. Players gain XP and credits from killing companions, battle droids and capturing objectives. XP and credits can be used to purchase temporary buffs and gear to strengthen their companion.

Bioware can add persistence through leaderboard and end season prizes. They further richen the pot by allowing players to unlock perks and gear for their companion to use out of PVP. An action RTS PVP game would allow a way for players to use their companions in end-game.

So, how about you? Any particular mini game you would like to see? Sound off below with your ideas.
